the psalmist’s table before enemies

IMG_5333At our local café, a poetry peace reading,
the reverent and the irreverent –
We delivered our short poems as prayer,
as though any idyllic word of ours had the
fragrance of sanctity, the well-chiseled
face of true North …

We are sure – positive – that while we walk
the shallows of despair, we hear the depth of hope
in the rhythmic drum of our word play.
Our poet-healers, a battalion of warriors marching,
laying out our mystic grace like the psalmist’s
table before enemies …
